The building's existing exterior has to be stripped off so the signs had to be removed.
The first sign to go was the Sullivans sign that was flat against the building.
Workers had to be hoisted in a lift to get to the sign and rip it off the front of the building.
In this view the sign is gone. The workers now continue to strip the exterior inch by inch.
The last section will have to wait until the Sullivans shingle is removed so they moved to Broad St.
On the Broad Street side the stripping continues and next comes removal of the Spencers sign.
In these frames the workmen working from two bucket trucks slide out the Spencers insert.
As the Spencers sign insert comes down, it seems like a piece of history is too. Now for the big sign.
A different lift comes in and is strapped to the top while the sign is cut away and lifted free.
The sign is lowered into the bed of a waiting truck and positioned to stay.
Once released from the straps, the sign is taken away by the truck to be discarded.
Spencers Drug store gets sheetrock-like panels in preparation for the stucco finish.
This building is shaping up to be a key player in the new look of downtown Blackstone.
A lot of action is going on at the same time. At the street level the sidewalk is being cut into.
Up above they're hanging rock. They are going to run the electric service below grade thus the necessity to cut into the sidewalk and break up the street. This is a really big undertaking!
This is the single biggest project in the block grant area involving a lot of collaboration.
