106 N. Main Street
This building recently was purchased by Candy Early. The awning was removed first.
.
The lentils were determined to be deteriorated and the upper part unstable so they had to be replaced which meant dismantling all the brickwork above the windows. Local contractor Frankie Williamson was brought in to handle the job so he subcontracted Don Lawson's brick masons.
After chiseling out the brickwork down to the windows, a new steel lentil was installed. Next, dome shaped particle board was set in place to set the form for the corbelled window arches.
Here you can see original brick going around the half moons then new brick around that.
As the arch goes up, rows of new brick follow and then a circular insert is added at the precise location as the original assuring that the new finished look will be a mirror image of the old.
The finished look is starting to take shape. In the right photo the peak has been reconstructed and if you look closely, you will notice that the particle board half moons have been removed and one row of new bricks have been put inside each of the four corbelled arches.
In this photo all arches are bricked in. Here is a close-up of the newly bricked in arches.
The facade has been fully restored to its original design!
