Broad Street Lofts

One of the most exciting developments to come out of the grant was the creation of 5 loft apartments in the H.L. Jackson and Doswell buildings, both owned by the Borums. Residents living downtown should translate into more vibrancy and more revenue for the local restaurants and retail shops.

The pictures below show the beginning stage of the project when the walls were framed up.

It is a little difficult to visualize the finished product from the skeletal beginnings.

There were once apartments upstairs.                      Above is a glimpse at the courtyard at its rawest.

Debbie Borum explains the features to come.         Upstairs hallway between apartment units.

The next phase of construction was the installation of electrical conduit and the sprinkler system.

Here tile from a previous bathroom is visible.       Recessed lighting is a feature of the apartments .

Above is a hallway between rooms in one of the larger one bedroom units in two stages of finish.

Large historic windows light up the rooms.  Closets and doors are made of birchwood.

Upstairs in the Jackson building is starting to shape up. The apartments take on their final form.

The stairwell leading upstairs to the apartments takes on a softer look in finished form. The stair to the left goes up from street level, the stair on the right goes up from the back of the building.

Left photo shows the same closet and entry doors unstained and on the right after staining.

Workers stain the floors to match the doors.              Everything is turning out beautifully.

This is the hallway upstairs in the Doswell building.    The other end of hallway is shown here.

Upstairs in the Doswell building you can go left or right depending on what you like best.

The unit to the right is a small one bedroom. Here is the kitchenette and dining room.

Down the hall you will pass by the bathroom en route to a small living room or den.

This living room is small but the double doors open out to the spiral stair, a most unique feature.

This is the only unit that has access to the spiral staircase overlooking the courtyard below.

Across the hall is a one bedroom unit that is much larger, the most spacious of all 5 units.

Here is a fancy light fixture and recessed lighting. Check out the wide hallway!

The living room is very spacious as well. These photos show two perspectives of the same room.

Every room in this unit is large and of course the units have sprinklers as required.
